I Set My Friends On Fire is an experimental rock band from Miami, Florida, was formed in 2007 by Matt Mehana and former member Nabil Moo. Chris Lent was later added as their permanent drummer in 2009. The group has released one album, You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter on Epitaph Records and is expected to release Astral Rejection in late winter/early spring. Despite the rumors, the band claims to have had no idea about the Aiden song of the same name, and the name I Set My Friends on Fire was derived from an inside joke.

History

Inception and I Set My Friends on Fire EP (2007—2008)

Matt Mehana and Nabil Moo were previously in a well-received local act named We Are The Cavalry. After their disbanding, Matt and Nabil began making songs under the name "I Set My Friends on Fire". They garnered a large audience due in part to MySpace, where their first single, a rendition of Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" (originally entitled "Crank That Cavalry Boy") received more than one million plays.^[1][2] Nonetheless, the duo's MySpace page was removed three times because MySpace had assumed that the duo were using software to increase the number of plays.^[1] The band released a self titled EP before releasing their first album. The songs included "Crank That", "ASL", and "Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beerholder".

] You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (2008—2009)

The duo then signed to Epitaph Records,^[3] who released their debut album You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter on October 7, 2008.^[1] The band received negative to mixed reception from various critics. Slant reviewer Nate Adams gave the album 0.5 rating out of five, citing "[It's] high in the running for worst album of the year[…]The music aims for brutality and melody, but misses the mark entirely on both counts."^[4] Alternative Press reviewer Phil Freeman also gave the album a half star out of five, remarking that the album "truly fails because it has exactly zero memorable moments".^[5] In a mixed review, John Lucas of the Georgia Straight said that the album "seems designed to test the listener’s tolerance", but that "those willing to embrace a noisy, ambitious, self-indulgent, and downright weird record will find a lot to love".^[6] Logan Broger of ChartAttack gave it three stars out of five, saying, "When the grind-electro-hardcore-pop duo aren't being obnoxious or comedic, there are some tunes that are actually good."^[7] Also giving it a three out of five, Sputnikmusic reviewer Brent Stephenson said, "The album is really just meant to be as obscenely ridiculous as it possibly can, and in that regard it is quite successful. "^[8] You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter reached #29 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart.^[9] The song "Things That Rhyme with Orange" was the second single off of the album and their third single overall. The music video was released soon after.

Works with Smosh (2009)

On November 21, 2008 the comedy duo Smosh had teamed up with I Set My Friends On Fire and released their first music video and second single, called "Sex Ed Rocks" with over 14,000,000 views. Later in September 2009, they teamed up yet again and released their second music video and fourth single, called "Four Years Foreplay" with over 3,000,000 views. "Four Years Foreplay" featured I Set My Friends On Fire's new drummer Chris Lent from From First To Last. On an interview with BVTV, Matt stated that he and Anthony Padilla of Smosh had been "chit-chatting" about new ideas.

Astral Rejection (2010—present)

I Set My Friends On Fire entered the studio in early 2010 to write and record their second album. In the June 2010 issue of Alternative Press, their second album was expected to be entitled "Astral Rejection", with a release date of June 22, 2010. The group performed at The Bamboozle on May 1, 2010 and then entered the studio for a second time on June 2, 2010 to finish up their upcoming album. The first single off of the album, "Excite Dyke", was exclusively released via digital download on June 15, 2010, as part of a new Epitaph compilation CD entitled "New Noise Vol. 1".^[10] In 2010 the band played on the "Scream It Like You Mean It 2010" tour with Silverstein, Emery, We Came As Romans, Dance Gavin Dance, Sky Eats Airplane, Ivoryline, and Close To Home. It was announced on this tour that Moo had left the band, and that From First to Last guitarist, Blake Steiner would be filling in for the time being. Mehana soon stated that only three songs, including "Excite Dyke", would be kept for the album and the other ten would be remade with Steiner. Although drummer Chris Lent originally stated that the album would be out in "February or March maybe", he announced in late January that the album wouldn't be released until the summer. In support of the upcoming album, the duo will be playing the fourth annual Artery Foundation Across the Nation Tour and all of Warped Tour 2011.

Escape the Fate is an American post-hardcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada formed in 2004. Since forming, they have released several EPs and three full-length studio albums. Dying Is Your Latest Fashion was the band's debut album and only album to feature vocalist Ronnie Radke. This War Is Ours, released on October 21, 2008, was the band's first album with Craig Mabbitt as the new lead vocalist. Their self-titled third studio album was released on November 2, 2010, and again featured Mabbitt on vocals.

Band history

Formation, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion, and departure of Radke (2005-2008)

Before forming Escape the Fate, vocalist Ronnie Radke, bassist Max Green, drummer Robert Ortiz, lead guitarist Bryan Monte Money, and rhythm guitarist Omar Espinosa were in multiple bands together.
In September 2005, Escape the Fate had won a local radio contest judged by My Chemical Romance. The gig awarded them the opportunity to open a show on the band's headlining tour with Alkaline Trio and Reggie and the Full Effect, which subsequently led to Escape the Fate's record deal with Epitaph.
On May 23, 2006, the band released their debut EP titled There's No Sympathy for the Dead. The EP included two songs that were later on their full length album, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion. The EP was produced by Michael Baskette and helped earn the band attention from record labels and fans alike. After the EP's release, keyboardist Carson Allen left the band to join On the Last Day.
On September 26, 2006 the band released their first full-length album, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion.
In 2007 during the Black on Black tour, rhythm guitarist Omar Espinosa left the band due to personal issues.
Ronnie Radke was asked to leave the band after he was sentenced to prison in June 2008 for multiple run-ins with the law involving narcotics and battery for a fight that led up to the death of Michael Cook. As stated by Max Green, "First we couldn't tour out of the country, then out of the state." He is in a new band named Falling in Reverse.^[3] Radke was released on December 12, 2010 and Falling in Reverse are set to release their debut album in early 2011.

Mabbitt's arrival and This War Is Ours (2008–2010)

After the departure of Radke, former Blessthefall vocalist Craig Mabbitt joined the band, first as a temporary replacement, and then as a permanent member.
This War Is Ours was released on October 21, 2008. It included the singles "The Flood", "Something", "10 Miles Wide", and "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part II)". It was the first Escape the Fate album featuring Craig Mabbitt as the vocalist.
Before the tour for This War Is Ours, the band had never completed a full tour. The band later went on the This War Is Ours tour with Attack Attack!, Burn Halo, William Control, and Black Tide.
"The Flood" has been released as DLC with the Warped Tour 01 Pack for the Rock Band games.
The band joined Hollywood Undead and Atreyu on their fall tour, beginning October 16, and toured Europe during December.^[4]
Escape the Fate announced via a MySpace bulletin that they would film a video for "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part II)" on January 9, 2010. It was filmed at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California.
On February 15, 2010, Epitaph Records announced the re-release of the This War Is Ours album in deluxe CD/DVD edition. The CD includes two new never before heard songs, later identified to be "Bad Blood" and "Behind the Mask", an acoustic version of "Harder Than You Know", and an unreleased remix of "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part II)" called "This War Is Mine" by the Clown Of Slipknot. It also came with a DVD that featured the new music video to "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part II)", as well as "Something", "The Flood", and "10 Miles Wide". It also comes with a world tour documentary and a behind the music feature.^[5] It was released April 27, 2010.^[6]
Escape the Fate toured Australia on the Soundwave Festival, and officially began playing "Bad Blood" as part of their live set.^[7]
On April 2, 2010, the band released their music video for "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part II)" on MySpace video. Escape the Fate also participated in the concert, Extreme Thing, and in May, The Bamboozle.^[8]
On April 20, 2010, the band released the full version of "Bad Blood" before the re-release's release, on Voxbloc.com.^[9]

Self-titled album (2010–present)

In an interview during Warped Tour 2009, Max Green stated that the album will feature a song co-written by Mick Mars of Mötley Crüe, who approached Escape the Fate to collaborate on some songs.^[10]
Starting July 24, 2010, they set off on tour for South and Central America, the country's toured are Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela.^[11]
Mabbitt stated through his Twitter account that the new album will be coming sooner than expected. He has also hinted towards there being a "Guillotine 3: The Aftermath" on the album.^[12]
On July 26, 2010, Escape the Fate announced via MySpace some new updates on the album. They have officially said that the new record will be released through major record label, DGC/Interscope, and produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine, Hollywood Undead). It is set to be released in November of this year. Max Green commented on it, saying, "This record is the cure for the modern day music epidemic, We are wiping the slate clean and re-writing rock music as you know it.” Escape The Fate will take on a United States, Canada and Europe tour prior to releasing the album, touring with Bullet For My Valentine, Drive A and Black Tide.^{[13][14][15][16]}
The band presented a new layout on their Myspace with an intro song and a counter of 4 days that initiated on August 24, with a title "Choose Your Fate", in addition now they have an official page.^[17][18]
On August 31, 2010, the band released the new album's first single, "Massacre."^[19] A new song called "Issues" from their upcoming self titled album, Escape the Fate, leaked via KROQ Radio on September 9.^[20] The band officially released the new radio single, "Issues," on September 15, 2010.^[19] The music video of Issues, premiered September 28 in Youtube.
On November 12, 2010, Escape The Fate announced that they would be pulling out of their European tour with Bullet For My Valentine in order to stay with bassist Max Green while he is in rehab for drug and alcohol addiction.^[21] Instead, the band will be promoting the album with a headlining tour called "The Dead Masquerade Tour", beginning in January 2011 and Max Green will be back in time to begin touring.^[22] On January 11, the band performed live in "Tues Show" (Fuel.tv) the song "Issues" and "Gorgeous Nightmare" with the special collaboration of Kevin Thrasher (of Lovehatehero).^[23]

The band realizes for the first time, a headline tour, for the promotion of its new self titled album, inviting Alesana, Motionless in White, Get Scared and Drive A across U.S. and Canada^[24] that initiates in January and ends in March. After concluding the North American tour, and to have cancelled the European tour with Bullet for my Valentine.^[25][26][27]

Attack Attack! is an American metalcore band from Westerville, Ohio. The group is currently signed to Rise Records. Since their inception in 2005, Attack Attack! have released one EP, If Guns Are Outlawed, Can We Use Swords? and two full-length albums, Someday Came Suddenly and a self-titled album.
Although the group's songs contain Christian-based lyrics, not all members of Attack Attack! follow the religion. As such, they do not consider themselves a Christian band

History

Formation and Someday Came Suddenly (2005–2008)

Attack Attack! was founded in 2005 by members Austin Carlile, Ricky Lortz, Andrew Whiting, Nick White, and Andrew Wetzel as a primary metalcore group. As time went on they added keyboard player Caleb Shomo. Several months later Nick White announced his departure from the group and John Holgado was added on bass. In early 2008 they self-released their debut EP titled If Guns Are Outlawed, Can We Use Swords?. Later they signed to Rise Records in June 2008 and released their debut album, Someday Came Suddenly, on the label late that year.^[2] Someday Came Suddenly peaked at #25 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and #193 on the Billboard 200,^[3] with sales of more than 3,600 in its first week

 

Carlile's departure and Barham's arrival (2008–2009)

Later, halfway through a tour supporting Maylene and the Sons of Disaster,^[5] vocalist Austin Carlile was fired by the group due to personal differences. Carlile was replaced by Nick Barham, former vocalist of For All We Know. In 2009 for Fearless Records' eighth Punk Goes... album, Punk Goes Pop 2, Attack Attack! covered Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" with Austin Carlile performing the lead vocals, before his departure from the band. Attack Attack! then toured with Escape the Fate, William Control, Black Tide and Burn Halo early in 2009.^[6] Attack Attack! was included on Warped Tour 2009 and did signings for the non-profit organization Music Saves Lives where they met with fans who gained special access to the band by donating blood.^[7]

Barham's departure (2009–2010)

Attack Attack! released a music video for their highly criticized song "Stick Stickly", and made its premiere on MTV2's Headbangers Ball. Two music videos were created, with one of them being produced by a company named DecembersEdge. The band decided to go with the other video featured on their Myspace profile. The "Stick Stickly" video has led to a number of criticisms, including lengthy pieces by Buddyhead and the British newspaper The Guardian.^[8][9] The band also has a "live" video for the song "Dr. Shavargo Pt. 3".^[10]
On October 19, 2009, lead vocalist Nick Barham announced his departure from Attack Attack! just two days short of their headliner tour. He stated in his blog on MySpace that "It was just time for change," and that there was no conflict between him and the other band members.^[11] The band then made the decision of Caleb Shomo to be moved as the band's primary vocalist but still remaining at his place as the keyboardist as well.^[12]
Near the end of 2009, Attack Attack! toured with I Set My Friends On Fire, Miss May I, Our Last Night, and The Color Morale as part of the "Shred Til You're Dead" tour. Attack Attack! started playing "Sexual Man Chocolate", which was the first song leaked from their self-titled album.

Self-titled album and Franck's departure (2010–present)

Attack Attack! headlined the 2010 Artery Across the Nation Tour with support from Asking Alexandria, I See Stars, Breathe Carolina and Bury Tomorrow in early 2010. The group performed three songs off their self-titled album live during the tour before its release. The songs performed were "Sexual Man Chocolate", "AC-130", and "A For Andrew".^[13] The self-titled album was released on June 8, 2010. The working title for it was intended to be "Shazam!", but was changed due to copyright issues.
The group performed on the Altec Lansing Stage during Warped Tour 2010 for the entire tour. They will be venturing on the This Is a Family Tour in November.^[14]
On November 10, 2010 Johnny Franck announced he had departed from the band to focus on his relationship with God. He has started a new project called The March Ahead.^[15][16] With this news also came a clip of a new song featuring Caleb Shomo doing both clean, and unclean vocals.^[17] Sean Mackowski of My Ticket Home substituted for Franck's position in the band during their tours.^[18] The music video for "Smokahontas" was released on January 21, 2011 and was directed by Thunder Down Country films.^[19]

Musical style

Attack Attack! have been known to perform the metalcore^[20] and post-hardcore^[8] genres combined with electronica influence.^[21] This combination usually features distinct traits into Attack Attack's music which include (but are not limited to) Auto-Tuned singing, techno-influenced breakdowns and keyboard solos.
